Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were AltaGas Ltd (TSX:ALA), which rose 4.56% or 1.04 points to trade at 23.86 at the close. Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY) added 2.76% or 0.17 points to end at 6.32 and Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) was up 2.58% or 0.52 points to 20.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR), which lost 7.59% or 0.69 points to trade at 8.40 in late trade. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) declined 7.25% or 0.65 points to end at 8.32 and OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) shed 6.77% or 0.18 points to 2.48.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 749 to 290 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 13.57% to 17.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 1.59% or 28.75 to $1,780.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 3.21% or 2.57 to hit $77.41 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.87% or 2.46 to trade at $83.11 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.96% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.46% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.73% at 105.27.
