Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Healthcare, IT and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX), which rose 4.99% or 2.77 points to trade at 58.33 at the close. Cogeco Communications Inc (TSX:CCA) added 2.24% or 1.41 points to end at 64.23 and Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC) was up 1.98% or 0.71 points to 36.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which lost 19.97% or 1.42 points to trade at 5.69 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 8.14% or 0.92 points to end at 10.38 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) shed 7.51% or 2.06 points to 25.37.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 727 to 243 and 96 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 6.53% to 12.08.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.05% or 1.05 to $1,952.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.29% or 0.26 to hit $90.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.22 to trade at $94.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.43% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.82.
