Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and Mining sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.69%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Penn West Petroleum Ltd. (TO:PWT), which rose 17.11% or 0.26 points to trade at 1.78 at the close. Meanwhile, Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) added 8.83% or 0.47 points to end at 5.79 and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International Inc (TO:VRX) was up 8.06% or 9.84 points to 131.88 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Genworth MI Canada Inc . (TO:MIC), which fell 3.80% or 1.23 points to trade at 31.10 at the close. Badger Daylighting Ltd . (TO:BAD) declined 3.61% or 0.74 points to end at 19.74 and Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG) was down 3.39% or 0.42 points to 11.98.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 686 to 670 and 172 ended unchanged.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.56% to 19.66.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.72% or 8.20 to $1133.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.01% or 0.47 to hit $46.12 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 0.78 to trade at $48.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.16% to 0.7634, while CAD/EUR fell 0.26% to 0.6932.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.00% at 97.00.
