Aug 16 (Reuters) - Canada's main stock index rose at open on Thursday, after China said it would hold talks with Washington later this month, offering a glimmer of hope to investors.
* At 9:30 a.m. ET (1330 GMT), the Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX Composite index .GSPTSE was up 87.59 points, or 0.54 percent, at 16,236.09.
