Warner Bros Discovery (NASDAQ:WBD) announced Wednesday that Chris Licht, Chairman and CEO of CNN Worldwide, has stepped down from his role, effective immediately.
Licht took up the position in May 2022 after a career in broadcast and network television, most recently as EVP of special programming at CBS.
In a news article on the CNN website, the publication stated that Licht's "brief one-year tenure at the network was stained by a series of severe missteps."
They add that David Zaslav, the CEO of parent company WBD, informed CNN employees of Licht's departure at the start of the network's daily editorial call Wednesday.
In the WBD press release, Zaslav stated: "I have great respect for Chris, personally and professionally."
"The job of leading CNN was never going to be easy, especially at a time of huge disruption and transformation, and he has poured his heart and soul into it. While we know we have work to do as we look to identify a new leader, we have absolute confidence in the team we have in place and will continue to fight for CNN and its world class journalism."
WBD shares are currently up 1.65% at the time of writing.
