Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Real Estate and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.14%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC), which rose 2.15% or 50.15 points to trade at 2,381.80 at the close. Nestle India Ltd (NS:NEST) added 1.81% or 351.25 points to end at 19,739.10 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 1.78% or 6.05 points to 346.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 1.74% or 2.90 points to trade at 164.05 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 1.70% or 10.85 points to end at 625.90 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 1.61% or 9.05 points to 553.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which rose 2.14% to 19,800.00, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 2.13% to settle at 2,381.35 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which gained 1.88% to close at 2,496.50.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.77% to 164.00 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 1.64% to settle at 553.20 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which was down 1.56% to 1,698.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 971 to 846 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1695 fell and 1562 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.20% to 17.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.08% or 17.95 to $1,637.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.41% or 1.16 to hit $83.23 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 1.18% or 1.06 to trade at $91.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.84% to 82.98, while EUR/INR rose 0.20% to 81.26.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.50% at 112.56.
