Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Metals and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.19%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which rose 2.44% or 14.30 points to trade at 599.45 at the close. Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) added 2.18% or 9.75 points to end at 456.05 and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) was up 1.99% or 16.10 points to 823.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 1.74% or 15.15 points to trade at 855.20 in late trade. Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (NS:HLL) declined 1.16% or 29.55 points to end at 2,526.15 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) shed 0.96% or 23.40 points to 2,420.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.66% to 119.55, Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was up 1.60% to settle at 1,203.50 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which gained 1.21% to close at 221.20.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 1.75% to 855.05 in late trade, Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which lost 1.13% to settle at 2,526.25 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 0.96% to 980.30 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1179 to 806 and 76 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1989 rose and 1476 declined, while 148 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.39% to 12.23.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.09% or 1.75 to $1,948.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.77% or 0.62 to hit $80.72 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.72% or 0.60 to trade at $84.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.03% to 82.73, while EUR/INR rose 0.04% to 89.44.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.03% at 104.03.
