Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Banking and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.00% to hit a new all time high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which rose 5.00% or 157.05 points to trade at 3,298.00 at the close. Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) added 3.56% or 40.10 points to end at 1,166.10 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 3.12% or 108.10 points to 3,568.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 3.06% or 47.10 points to trade at 1,492.20 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 2.62% or 8.55 points to end at 317.20 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC) shed 1.99% or 13.65 points to 670.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 3.21% to 1,163.85, Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which was up 2.72% to settle at 3,554.30 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.61% to close at 1,432.45.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 3.36% to 1,488.60 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 3.27% to settle at 315.15 and JSW Steel Ltd (BO:JSTL) which was down 0.62% to 909.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1108 to 1045 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1804 fell and 1757 advanced, while 124 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.71% to 21.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.16% or 27.80 to $2,365.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.40% or 0.31 to hit $77.26 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.28% or 0.23 to trade at $81.67 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 83.26, while EUR/INR rose 0.03% to 90.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 104.80.
