Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas and Metals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 3.95% or 32.05 points to trade at 843.15 at the close. Yes Bank Ltd. (NS:YESB) added 3.35% or 37.25 points to end at 1150.30 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.23% or 19.90 points to 635.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (NS:APSE), which lost 1.64% or 4.40 points to trade at 264.10 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 1.01% or 6.25 points to end at 615.10 and Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) shed 0.86% or 5.60 points to 646.15.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which rose 1.68% to 163.50, Tata Motors Ltd. (BO:TAMO) which was up 1.64% to settle at 470.75 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.56% to close at 5312.30.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.25% to 613.85 in late trade, Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (BO:APSE) which lost 1.21% to settle at 264.80 and Larsen & Toubro Limited (BO:LART) which was down 0.69% to 1341.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1000 to 461 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1652 rose and 884 declined, while 157 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.67% to 15.2825.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.55% or 6.25 to $1147.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.18% or 0.10 to hit $53.96 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.23% or 0.13 to trade at $57.09 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.15% to 68.111, while EUR/INR rose 0.41% to 71.3300.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.46% at 102.76.
