Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Oil & Gas and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 3.42% or 9.10 points to trade at 275.25 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 3.27% or 24.20 points to end at 763.30 and Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) was up 2.10% or 6.85 points to 332.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC), which lost 2.59% or 10.40 points to trade at 392.00 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 2.08% or 6.55 points to end at 308.40 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 1.63% or 61.60 points to 3716.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which rose 1.78% to 734.65, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was up 1.30% to settle at 2431.75 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which gained 0.82% to close at 1873.00.
The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 1.86% to 308.30 in late trade, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which lost 1.74% to settle at 3713.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 1.70% to 567.90 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 820 to 768 and 25 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1414 rose and 1275 declined, while 190 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 1.56% to 12.2975.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.25% or 3.20 to $1294.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.15% or 0.09 to hit $59.73 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.09 to trade at $66.08 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 64.103, while EUR/INR rose 0.31% to 76.4656.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 92.47.
