Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Technology and Auto sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.34%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which rose 1.67% or 6.90 points to trade at 421.30 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 1.48% or 15.35 points to end at 1,051.95 and ITC Ltd (NS:ITC) was up 1.47% or 5.15 points to 354.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which lost 3.08% or 25.70 points to trade at 809.85 in late trade. Apollo Hospitals Enterprises Ltd. (NS:APLH) declined 2.84% or 128.25 points to end at 4,383.10 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) shed 2.38% or 225.20 points to 9,229.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 1.81% to 1,051.75, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.43% to settle at 354.40 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 0.94% to close at 1,081.70.
The worst performers were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was down 3.05% to 809.90 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 2.40% to settle at 9,228.25 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which was down 1.31% to 2,517.15 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 950 to 904 and 82 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1740 rose and 1582 declined, while 135 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.30% to 16.66.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.55% or 9.15 to $1,658.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.43% or 0.38 to hit $87.99 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.40% or 0.38 to trade at $94.27 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 82.76, while EUR/INR rose 0.37% to 81.91.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 111.13.
