Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Power and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.93%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 5.87% or 58.90 points to trade at 1062.90 at the close. UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) added 4.00% or 22.65 points to end at 589.60 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 3.80% or 30.70 points to 839.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI), which lost 5.58% or 114.45 points to trade at 1935.15 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 5.52% or 49.30 points to end at 844.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 3.83% or 37.80 points to 948.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 2.19% to 658.60, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.82% to settle at 4168.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 1.55% to close at 583.95.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 5.55% to 843.80 in late trade, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which lost 5.36% to settle at 1939.70 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which was down 3.86% to 947.45 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1249 to 423 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1939 fell and 896 advanced, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.67% to 23.2450.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.11% or 2.05 to $1858.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.80% or 0.42 to hit $52.69 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.36 to trade at $55.61 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 72.953, while EUR/INR fell 0.16% to 88.6525.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 90.267.
