Investing.com – India equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Power, Oil & Gas and Green Energy sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.03%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ITC Ltd (NS:ITC), which rose 4.76% or 17.20 points to trade at 378.60 at the close. Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT) added 4.62% or 202.10 points to end at 4,573.05 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 3.27% or 34.05 points to 1,075.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL), which lost 26.70% or 570.10 points to trade at 1,565.25 in late trade. Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 6.60% or 32.70 points to end at 462.45 and UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL) shed 6.16% or 45.75 points to 696.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which rose 4.74% to 378.60, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 3.25% to settle at 1,075.40 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 2.46% to close at 2,634.30.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.97% to 166.65 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 1.85% to settle at 2,612.80 and Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which was down 1.80% to 2,304.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1023 to 894 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1784 fell and 1585 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.24% to 15.73.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.45% or 28.20 to $1,971.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 0.24% or 0.18 to hit $76.59 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $82.88 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.59% to 82.21, while EUR/INR rose 0.60% to 90.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 101.00.
