India stocks lower at close of trade; S&P CNX Nifty down 0.74%

Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Real Estate sectors led shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the S&P CNX Nifty lost 0.74%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.84%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P CNX Nifty were Infosys Ltd (NSE:INFY), which rose 2.13% or 23.15 points to trade at 1109.15 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Limited (NSE:TEML) added 1.83% or 9.70 points to end at 540.65 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NSE:ZEE) was up 1.27% or 5.20 points to 414.80 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC), which fell 5.49% or 14.35 points to trade at 246.80 at the close. State Bank Of India (NSE:SBI) declined 4.93% or 13.95 points to end at 268.80 and Tata Motors Ltd . (NSE:TAMO) was down 4.29% or 16.55 points to 369.15.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which rose 2.07% to 1104.35, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.25% to settle at 2603.05 and Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which gained 0.62% to close at 719.80.

The worst performers were TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) which was down 5.46% to 246.90 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.87% to settle at 269.30 and Hindalco Industries Ltd. (BO:HALC) which was down 4.22% to 103.35 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1084 to 360 and 5 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 539 fell and 211 advanced, while 7 ended unchanged.

Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (NSE:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; falling 5.49% or 14.35 to 246.80. Shares in Tata Motors Ltd. (NSE:TAMO) fell to 52-week lows; down 4.29% or 16.55 to 369.15. Shares in TATA STEEL LIMITED (BO:TISC) fell to 52-week lows; losing 5.46% or 14.25 to 246.90.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of S&P CNX Nifty options, was up 2.76% to 15.8925.

Gold for December delivery was up 0.63% or 7.00 to $1111.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.63% or 0.73 to hit $44.23 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 1.36% or 0.69 to trade at $50.33 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.69% to 64.240, while EUR/INR rose 0.84% to 70.8770.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.02% at 97.25.
