Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Power and Gas & Water sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 1.78% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (TYO:6770), which rose 15.52% or 172.00 points to trade at 1,280.00 at the close. JTEKT Corp. (TYO:6473) added 10.88% or 103.00 points to end at 1,050.00 and Toyota Tsusho Corp. (TYO:8015) was up 8.11% or 375.00 points to 5,000.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pacific Metals Co., Ltd. (TYO:5541), which lost 8.53% or 172.00 points to trade at 1,845.00 in late trade. NGK Insulators, Ltd. (TYO:5333) declined 6.71% or 125.00 points to end at 1,737.00 and TOTO Ltd. (TYO:5332) shed 5.03% or 225.00 points to 4,250.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2495 to 1046 and 248 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 2.02% to 23.70.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.71% or 0.62 to $87.28 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January fell 0.69% or 0.65 to hit $93.12 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.03% or 0.45 to trade at $1,644.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.34% to 147.95, while EUR/JPY rose 0.13% to 147.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.18% at 110.81.
