Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Software & Computer Services and General Retailers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were J Sainsbury PLC (LON:SBRY), which rose 4.08% or 10.30 points to trade at 262.80 at the close. Auto Trader Group Plc (LON:AUTOA) added 2.78% or 16.80 points to end at 621.20 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RKT) was up 2.54% or 142.00 points to 5,726.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 4.76% or 8.55 points to trade at 170.95 in late trade. Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) declined 3.45% or 24.60 points to end at 688.00 and Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) shed 2.65% or 22.80 points to 836.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1032 to 803 and 471 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.34% or 6.50 to $1,922.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.37% or 1.09 to hit $78.59 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.45% or 1.25 to trade at $85.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.33% to 1.24, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.21% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.28% at 102.01.
