Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.46%, while the S&P 500 index lost 1.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.73%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 6.28% or 9.25 points to trade at 156.66 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 2.15% or 4.61 points to end at 219.15 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) was up 1.96% or 3.92 points to 204.39 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 4.24% or 6.15 points to trade at 138.88 in late trade. Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) declined 3.10% or 6.23 points to end at 194.72 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 2.94% or 4.22 points to 139.28.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which rose 14.27% to 100.03, Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which was up 11.90% to settle at 7.95 and Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which gained 10.48% to close at 6.91.
The worst performers were Lincoln National Corporation (NYSE:LNC) which was down 33.15% to 34.83 in late trade, Fidelity National Information Services Inc (NYSE:FIS) which lost 28.05% to settle at 57.17 and Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which was down 18.01% to 5.78 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Huadi International Group Co Ltd (NASDAQ:HUDI) which rose 242.80% to 105.72, Acutus Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AFIB) which was up 39.71% to settle at 0.98 and Nerdwallet Inc (NASDAQ:NRDS) which gained 37.40% to close at 13.63.
The worst performers were Surgalign Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:SRGA) which was down 34.43% to 2.00 in late trade, Neurobo Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:NRBO) which lost 33.29% to settle at 4.67 and Biosig Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:BSGM) which was down 32.26% to 0.32 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1810 to 1294 and 106 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2128 fell and 1634 advanced, while 164 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.17% to 25.30 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.05% or 17.25 to $1,632.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.18% or 1.96 to hit $88.04 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 1.68% or 1.62 to trade at $94.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.66% to 0.98, while USD/JPY rose 0.27% to 148.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.45% at 112.84.
