Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Public Utilities, Electric Power and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Ultrapar Participacoes SA (SA:UGPA3), which rose 4.91% or 3.24 points to trade at 69.19 at the close. CPFL Energia SA (SA:CPFE3) added 2.81% or 0.54 points to end at 19.73 and Cia de Saneamento Basico do Estado (SA:SBSP3) was up 2.72% or 0.76 points to 28.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 3.41% or 0.070 points to trade at 1.980 in late trade. MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) declined 2.94% or 0.31 points to end at 10.25 and CCR SA (SA:CCRO3) shed 2.55% or 0.40 points to 15.28.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 164 to 146 and 22 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.58% to 42.94.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.88% or 11.25 to $1287.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.96% or 0.47 to hit $48.60 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract fell 0.44% or 0.61 to trade at $137.07 .
USD/BRL was up 1.65% to 3.4808, while EUR/BRL rose 2.12% to 3.9310.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 94.41.
