Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Industrials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.45% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which rose 12.50% or 0.400 points to trade at 3.600 at the close. Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5) added 8.61% or 1.76 points to end at 22.19 and Gerdau SA (SA:GGBR4) was up 7.17% or 0.65 points to 9.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BM&FBovespa SA (SA:BVMF3), which lost 3.05% or 0.59 points to trade at 18.76 in late trade. MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3) declined 2.53% or 0.32 points to end at 12.31 and Cyrela Brazil Realty SA (SA:CYRE3) shed 2.52% or 0.26 points to 10.05.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 197 to 129 and 19 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 1.73% to 32.37.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.12% or 1.55 to $1344.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.72% or 1.21 to hit $45.70 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 0.06% or 0.08 to trade at $136.77 .
USD/BRL was down 0.19% to 3.1861, while EUR/BRL rose 0.05% to 3.5627.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.10% at 95.58.
