Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 1.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which rose 10.29% or 2.37 points to trade at 25.41 at the close. Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) added 8.01% or 0.69 points to end at 9.30 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) was up 6.41% or 0.22 points to 3.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4), which lost 0.86% or 0.47 points to trade at 54.47 in late trade. EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) declined 0.45% or 0.04 points to end at 8.90 and CETIP SA - Mercados Organizados (SA:CTIP3) shed 0.39% or 0.17 points to 42.96.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 241 to 134 and 38 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.25% to 31.75.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.33% or 4.40 to $1326.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 4.99% or 2.23 to hit $46.90 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 0.25% or 0.39 to trade at $153.18 .
USD/BRL was down 0.48% to 3.2180, while EUR/BRL fell 0.51% to 3.6083.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 95.34.
