Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Electric Power and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 1.00%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which rose 6.71% or 0.47 points to trade at 7.47 at the close. Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3) added 2.90% or 0.89 points to end at 31.63 and Companhia Brasileira deDistribuicao (SA:PCAR4) was up 2.13% or 1.49 points to 71.49 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4), which lost 5.30% or 0.59 points to trade at 10.55 in late trade. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) declined 5.09% or 0.28 points to end at 5.22 and Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3) shed 4.48% or 0.35 points to 7.47.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 231 to 134 and 42 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 1.48% to 24.64 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.65% or 8.09 to $1260.19 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.69% or 0.81 to hit $48.70 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract rose 2.87% or 3.75 to trade at $134.47 .
USD/BRL was down 0.98% to 3.1415, while EUR/BRL fell 0.34% to 3.6829.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 93.36.
