Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Utilities, Clean Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.06%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX:BEP_u), which rose 11.45% or 3.31 points to trade at 32.21 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 9.66% or 0.23 points to end at 2.61 and Bombardier Inc (TSX:BBDb) was up 7.38% or 4.63 points to 67.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tilray Inc (TSX:TLRY), which lost 19.30% or 0.66 points to trade at 2.76 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) declined 5.10% or 0.26 points to end at 4.84 and Cargojet Inc (TSX:CJT) shed 4.81% or 5.92 points to 117.08.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 545 to 412 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.58% to 14.35.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.11% or 25.60 to $2,328.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 3.32% or 2.72 to hit $79.21 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 3.13% or 2.70 to trade at $83.63 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.25% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.21% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.52% at 105.54.
