Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Materials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI), which rose 8.82% or 3.30 points to trade at 40.70 at the close. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) added 8.52% or 0.45 points to end at 5.73 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX:IVN) was up 6.55% or 0.74 points to 12.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Algoma Steel Group Inc (TSX:ASTL), which lost 5.41% or 0.46 points to trade at 8.04 in late trade. Innergex Renewable Energy Inc . (TSX:INE) declined 4.58% or 0.75 points to end at 15.64 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) shed 3.48% or 0.57 points to 15.83.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 682 to 303 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.29% to 17.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.19% or 3.60 to $1,881.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.29% or 0.22 to hit $74.85 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.16% or 0.13 to trade at $79.78 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.34% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 103.01.
