Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Energy and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.30%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 17.41% or 1.05 points to trade at 7.08 at the close. Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u) added 6.88% or 0.44 points to end at 6.84 and Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) was up 4.29% or 0.23 points to 5.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included B2Gold Corp (TSX:BTO), which lost 2.60% or 0.11 points to trade at 4.12 in late trade. NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) declined 2.51% or 0.14 points to end at 5.43 and CI Financial Corp (TSX:CIX) shed 2.35% or 0.40 points to 16.59.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 476 to 452 and 125 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.54% to 12.95.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,941.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.16% or 0.92 to hit $79.97 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.51% or 1.26 to trade at $84.62 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.16% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 104.13.
