Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Materials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.32%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which rose 16.07% or 7.04 points to trade at 50.84 at the close. Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) added 12.84% or 0.86 points to end at 7.56 and Trisura Group Ltd (TSX:TSU) was up 8.07% or 2.63 points to 35.24 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Northland Power Inc . (TSX:NPI), which lost 6.43% or 1.56 points to trade at 22.71 in late trade. Canadian Tire Corp Ltd (TSX:CTCa) declined 5.54% or 9.19 points to end at 156.82 and Boralex Inc (TSX:BLX) shed 5.52% or 1.75 points to 29.94.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 546 to 413 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.91% to 10.82.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.18% or 3.45 to $1,945.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.36% or 0.30 to hit $83.12 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.25 to trade at $86.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.03% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.32% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 102.72.
