Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.45% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF), which rose 8.06% or 3.73 points to trade at 50.03 at the close. Lundin Gold Inc (TSX:LUG) added 7.50% or 1.14 points to end at 16.35 and SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM) was up 6.97% or 0.41 points to 6.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which lost 6.13% or 0.16 points to trade at 2.45 in late trade. Eldorado Gold Corp (TSX:ELD) declined 6.11% or 0.93 points to end at 14.29 and Colliers International Group Inc Bats (TSX:CIGI) shed 5.68% or 9.72 points to 161.34.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 501 to 450 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.34% to 11.76.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.72% or 14.65 to $2,045.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.60% or 2.04 to hit $76.57 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 2.35% or 1.97 to trade at $81.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.00% at 103.87.
