Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Materials, Financials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 1.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TSX:YRI), which rose 18.10% or 1.01 points to trade at 6.59 at the close. Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX) added 18.02% or 0.62 points to end at 4.06 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TSX:HBM) was up 16.18% or 0.95 points to 6.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT), which lost 7.90% or 1.83 points to trade at 21.32 in late trade. Telus International Cda Inc (TSX:TIXT) declined 7.21% or 2.32 points to end at 29.85 and Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP) shed 6.58% or 3.05 points to 43.33.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 622 to 378 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.12% to 23.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 3.30% or 53.75 to $1,684.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 5.06% or 4.46 to hit $92.63 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 4.24% or 4.01 to trade at $98.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 2.01% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.11% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.91% at 110.65.
