Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the REITs, Real Estate and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 1.42% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 7.78% or 0.42 points to trade at 5.82 at the close. MAG Silver Corp (TSX:MAG) added 6.54% or 0.94 points to end at 15.31 and Capstone Mining Corp (TSX:CS) was up 5.64% or 0.33 points to 6.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Dye & Durham Ltd (TSX:DND), which lost 19.01% or 3.86 points to trade at 16.45 in late trade. Laurentian Bank Of Canada (TSX:LB) declined 12.46% or 4.47 points to end at 31.40 and BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB) shed 2.54% or 0.19 points to 7.28.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 699 to 292 and 94 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 7.16% to 10.89 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.55 to $1,931.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.30% or 2.04 to hit $90.56 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.33% or 2.14 to trade at $94.02 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR rose 1.08% to 0.70.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.54% at 104.96.
