Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Discretionary and Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY), which rose 4.39% or 7.10 points to trade at 169.00 at the close. Stelco Holdings Inc (TSX:STLC) added 3.66% or 1.59 points to end at 45.05 and Athabasca Oil Corp (TSX:ATH) was up 3.33% or 0.17 points to 5.27 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC), which lost 6.93% or 0.98 points to trade at 13.17 in late trade. NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX:NXE) declined 5.50% or 0.63 points to end at 10.83 and Filo Mining Corp (TSX:FIL) shed 3.96% or 0.99 points to 23.98.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 542 to 414 and 86 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.89% to 11.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.51% or 11.95 to $2,357.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.45% or 0.39 to hit $86.52 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.71% or 0.65 to trade at $90.52 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.15% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.03% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 103.91.
