Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Materials and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV), which rose 7.60% or 0.69 points to trade at 9.77 at the close. NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA) added 6.37% or 0.68 points to end at 11.35 and Kelt Exploration Ltd. (TSX:KEL) was up 4.75% or 0.26 points to 5.73 in late trade.
Biggest losers included iA Financial Corporation Inc (TSX:IAG), which lost 8.65% or 8.11 points to trade at 85.64 in late trade. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) declined 8.00% or 4.78 points to end at 55.00 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) shed 6.74% or 11.63 points to 160.85.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 467 to 467 and 117 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.88% to 11.49.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.24% or 4.85 to $2,034.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.19% or 0.92 to hit $77.96 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.87% or 0.72 to trade at $83.06 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.01% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 103.92.
