Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Materials, IT and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 7.36% or 0.29 points to trade at 4.23 at the close. Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP) added 6.22% or 0.24 points to end at 4.10 and Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) was up 4.64% or 3.20 points to 72.18 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX:TXG), which lost 4.97% or 1.04 points to trade at 19.90 in late trade. OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC) declined 4.69% or 0.15 points to end at 3.05 and Osisko Mining Corp (TSX:OSK) shed 4.50% or 0.14 points to 2.97.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 477 to 452 and 120 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.15% to 12.45.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.37% or 32.60 to $2,342.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.16% or 0.91 to hit $79.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.80% or 0.66 to trade at $83.45 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.15% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 105.10.
