Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, REITs and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAAC), which rose 13.38% or 0.76 points to trade at 6.44 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 4.58% or 0.07 points to end at 1.60 and Lithium Americas Corp (TSX:LAC) was up 4.03% or 0.25 points to 6.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SSR Mining Inc (TSX:SSRM), which lost 7.91% or 0.50 points to trade at 5.82 in late trade. Parkland Fuel Corporation (TSX:PKI) declined 6.19% or 2.94 points to end at 44.56 and IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) shed 4.63% or 0.17 points to 3.50.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 505 to 422 and 108 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.50% to 12.10.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.06% or 1.25 to $2,042.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.68% or 0.54 to hit $78.33 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.68 to trade at $81.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.34% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.28% to 0.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 103.88.
