Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Gfl Environmental Inc (TSX:GFL), which rose 10.42% or 4.47 points to trade at 47.38 at the close. First Capital Realty Inc . (TSX:FCR_u) added 3.48% or 0.50 points to end at 14.87 and BRP Inc (TSX:DOO) was up 2.63% or 2.24 points to 87.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE), which lost 6.59% or 0.33 points to trade at 4.68 in late trade. Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) declined 6.05% or 1.72 points to end at 26.69 and Headwater Exploration Inc (TSX:HWX) shed 5.90% or 0.45 points to 7.18.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 529 to 432 and 90 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 7.71% to 8.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.02% or 23.85 to $2,369.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.66% or 2.82 to hit $74.17 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.49% or 2.83 to trade at $78.28 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.46% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.56% at 104.04.
