Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Utilities and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.70%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were NuVista Energy Ltd . (TSX:NVA), which rose 5.17% or 0.58 points to trade at 11.80 at the close. Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TSX:PEY) added 4.95% or 0.59 points to end at 12.51 and Cenovus Energy Inc (TSX:CVE) was up 4.65% or 1.09 points to 24.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp (TSX:LIF), which lost 6.63% or 2.04 points to trade at 28.75 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TSX:IMG) declined 5.99% or 0.10 points to end at 1.57 and NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG) shed 5.85% or 0.40 points to 6.44.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 545 to 448 and 102 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.85% to 21.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.29% or 5.05 to $1,725.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.75% or 1.51 to hit $88.03 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.07% or 1.90 to trade at $93.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.73% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.27% to 0.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 1.01% at 111.09.
