* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX .GSPTSE fell 65.38 points, or 0.41 percent, to 16,006.67.
* Leading the index were Pretium Resources Inc PVG.TO , up 6.3 percent, Cameco Corp CCO.TO , up 5.4 percent, and Alacer Gold Corp ASR.TO , higher by 4.7 percent.
* Lagging shares were Shopify Inc SHOP.TO , down 6.6 percent, Hudbay Minerals Inc HBM.TO , down 6.1 percent, and Bombardier Inc BBDb.TO , lower by 5.9 percent.
* On the TSX 71 issues rose and 171 fell as a 0.4-to-1 ratio favored decliners. There were 2 new highs and 23 new lows, with total volume of 252.8 million shares.
* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Aurora Cannabis Inc ACB.TO , Manulife Financial Corp MFC.TO and Bombardier Inc BBDb.TO .
* The TSX's energy group .SPTTEN fell 1.30 points, or 0.66 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS slipped 1.11 points, or 0.36 percent.
* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 fell 2.47 percent, or $1.89, to $74.52 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1 fell 1.83 percent, or $1.58, to $84.71 O/R
* The TSX is off 1.2 percent for the year.
