* The Toronto Stock Exchange's S&P/TSX .GSPTSE rose 105.17 points, or 0.65 percent, to 16,371.78.
* The biggest contributor to the TSX gain was Canadian Natural Resources CNQ.TO with 9.5 net index points. Energy was the top sector contributor.
* The leading percentage gainers were Transcontinental Inc TCLa.TO , up 5.5 percent, Labrador Iron Ore Royalty Corp LIF.TO , up 4.2 percent, and Cenovus Energy Inc CVE.TO , higher by 4.1 percent.
* Lagging shares were Centerra Gold Inc CG.TO , down 6.0 percent, New Gold Inc NGD.TO , down 3.5 percent, and Intertape Polymer Group Inc ITP.TO , lower by 2.3 percent.
* On the TSX 156 issues advanced and 86 declined as a 1.8-to-1 ratio favored advancers. There were 10 new highs and 5 new lows, with total volume of 141.5 million shares.
* The most heavily traded shares by volume were Bombardier Inc BBDb.TO , Aurora Cannabis Inc ACB.TO and Cenovus Energy Inc CVE.TO .
* The TSX's energy group .SPTTEN rose 2.88 points, or 1.41 percent, while the financials sector .SPTTFS climbed 1.25 points, or 0.42 percent.
* West Texas Intermediate crude futures CLc1 rose 1.21 percent, or $0.88, to $73.82 a barrel. Brent crude LCOc1 fell 0.41 percent, or $0.32, to $77.07 O/R
* The TSX is up 1 percent for the year.
