Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Chemicals and Retail sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX added 0.74%, while the MDAX index climbed 0.59%, and the TecDAX index added 1.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 5.55% or 1.320 points to trade at 25.100 at the close. BASF SE NA O.N. (DE:BASFN) added 2.75% or 2.570 points to end at 96.150 and Adidas AG (DE:ADSGN) was up 2.30% or 3.85 points to 171.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Merck KGaA (DE:MRCG), which lost 1.42% or 1.30 points to trade at 90.12 in late trade. Fresenius SE & Co KGAA O.N. (DE:FREG) declined 0.58% or 0.380 points to end at 65.120 and E.ON SE NA (DE:EONGn) shed 0.49% or 0.044 points to 8.883.
The top performers on the MDAX were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which rose 5.05% to 0.48, K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) which was up 4.15% to settle at 22.350 and Wacker Chemie O.N. (DE:WCHG) which gained 2.97% to close at 173.40.
The worst performers were Gerresheimer AG (BS:GXId) which was down 1.18% to 72.050 in late trade, Hugo Boss AG NA O.N. (DE:BOSSn) which lost 1.18% to settle at 75.380 and Jungheinrich AG O.N.VZO (DE:JUNG_p) which was down 1.17% to 40.520 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were S&T AG (F:SANT1) which rose 9.80% to 21.620, Jenoptik AG (DE:JENG) which was up 6.83% to settle at 30.960 and Medigene NA O.N. (DE:MDG1k) which gained 6.47% to close at 14.480.
The worst performers were Sartorius AG VZO O.N. (DE:SATG_p) which was down 0.85% to 87.250 in late trade, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which lost 0.74% to settle at 160.10 and Telefonica Deutschland Holding AG (DE:O2Dn) which was down 0.71% to 4.040 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 423 to 291 and 101 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 2.66% to 12.58.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.60% or 8.10 to $1331.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.22% or 0.14 to hit $64.11 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 0.01% or 0.01 to trade at $69.39 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.2250, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.00% to 0.8813.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.45% at 90.24.
