Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Auto sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 0.29%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 4.24% or 3.65 points to trade at 91.20 at the close. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) added 5.29% or 70.75 points to end at 1412.85 and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) was up 3.93% or 5.25 points to 139.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE), which lost 5.25% or 20.00 points to trade at 361.60 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 4.64% or 32.80 points to end at 674.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) shed 2.82% or 9.75 points to 337.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which rose 6.04% to 91.30, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was up 5.32% to settle at 1408.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which gained 4.15% to close at 431.90.
The worst performers were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 4.55% to 674.40 in late trade, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which lost 2.66% to settle at 336.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 1.23% to 1166.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 838 to 735 and 70 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1295 fell and 1096 advanced, while 131 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.17% to 13.5900.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.15% or 2.20 to $1431.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 0.57% or 0.33 to hit $58.38 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.40 to trade at $65.03 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 68.791, while EUR/INR fell 0.15% to 76.6710.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 97.857.
