Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Power and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL), which rose 5.31% or 5.90 points to trade at 117.30 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 4.85% or 13.15 points to end at 283.45 and NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC) was up 2.86% or 3.15 points to 113.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 13.85% or 7.00 points to trade at 42.80 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 1.28% or 1.80 points to end at 138.50 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) shed 1.85% or 43.00 points to 2296.30.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 2.77% to 113.00, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 2.28% to settle at 128.00 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which gained 1.97% to close at 759.95.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 15.33% to 42.80 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 1.63% to settle at 138.60 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.44% to 2296.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 977 to 578 and 69 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1414 fell and 957 advanced, while 173 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.39% to 13.3775 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.25% or 3.65 to $1471.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 0.44% or 0.26 to hit $58.98 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.32 to trade at $64.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.13% to 70.892, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 78.5700.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 97.490.
