Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.86%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consumer Products Ltd (NS:TACN), which rose 3.29% or 37.40 points to trade at 1,175.50 at the close. Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) added 3.11% or 18.20 points to end at 604.00 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (NS:LART) was up 2.89% or 101.65 points to 3,620.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 1.81% or 6.35 points to trade at 344.20 in late trade. HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) declined 1.08% or 16.50 points to end at 1,514.80 and JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) shed 0.98% or 8.45 points to 856.35.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which rose 2.91% to 3,621.75, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.42% to settle at 7,295.00 and Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.38% to close at 1,054.00.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 1.82% to 344.50 in late trade, HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which lost 1.04% to settle at 1,515.35 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was unchanged 0.00% to 162.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1615 to 595 and 57 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2499 rose and 1260 declined, while 150 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 5.63% to 12.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.69% or 40.85 to $2,372.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.54% or 0.44 to hit $81.78 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.54% or 0.47 to trade at $86.82 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.01% to 83.36, while EUR/INR fell 0.08% to 88.81.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 106.00.
