Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Power, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.92%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.90%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Grasim Industries Ltd (NS:GRAS), which rose 4.42% or 97.65 points to trade at 2,305.00 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 4.07% or 64.35 points to end at 1,647.00 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 3.27% or 149.75 points to 4,722.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Axis Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which lost 0.54% or 5.65 points to trade at 1,047.20 in late trade. Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) declined 0.47% or 14.00 points to end at 2,971.70 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) shed 0.45% or 5.70 points to 1,248.10.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO:BJFS) which rose 3.91% to 1,643.05, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was up 2.98% to settle at 7,232.20 and Nestle India Ltd (BO:NEST) which gained 2.63% to close at 2,635.00.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 0.69% to 1,245.00 in late trade, Axis Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 0.67% to settle at 1,046.50 and Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was down 0.55% to 2,971.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1134 to 1056 and 42 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1994 fell and 1692 advanced, while 110 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.02% to 12.83.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.59% or 12.95 to $2,225.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.82% or 0.67 to hit $82.02 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.55 to trade at $85.96 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.02% to 83.38, while EUR/INR fell 0.38% to 89.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 104.34.
