Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Metals, Technology and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 1.17% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 8.12% or 61.00 points to trade at 811.35 at the close. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) added 6.46% or 23.60 points to end at 388.00 and Cipla Ltd. (NS:CIPL) was up 7.30% or 37.10 points to 534.95 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 3.13% or 10.65 points to trade at 330.35 in late trade. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.04% or 29.45 points to end at 2789.70 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) shed 1.23% or 19.00 points to 1526.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which rose 4.34% to 2715.00, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 4.23% to settle at 484.40 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which gained 2.73% to close at 146.65.
The worst performers were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.98% to 136.65 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 0.54% to settle at 723.90 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 0.08% to 1535.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 946 to 628 and 67 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1488 fell and 985 advanced, while 139 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.95% to 15.6300.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.15% or 1.95 to $1317.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.93% or 0.50 to hit $53.16 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.82% or 0.51 to trade at $61.47 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 71.575, while EUR/INR fell 0.09% to 81.5440.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 95.895.
