Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Metals and Consumer Durables sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 rose 1.20% to hit a new 3-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 1.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 8.36% or 25.80 points to trade at 333.80 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) added 5.44% or 13.60 points to end at 263.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 5.35% or 19.65 points to 387.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which lost 1.68% or 2.55 points to trade at 151.40 in late trade. Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) declined 0.38% or 3.10 points to end at 807.15 and Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) shed 0.34% or 1.55 points to 453.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 8.08% to 333.70, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 3.90% to settle at 194.40 and Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which gained 3.80% to close at 243.40.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 0.41% to 2014.10 in late trade, HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which lost 0.39% to settle at 1004.50 and NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was down 0.23% to 152.00 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1176 to 438 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1693 rose and 876 declined, while 158 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.30% to 14.8950 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.23% or 2.95 to $1296.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.93% or 0.52 to hit $56.59 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.90% or 0.59 to trade at $66.33 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.16% to 69.897, while EUR/INR fell 0.10% to 78.5840.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.292.
