Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.17%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM), which rose 4.75% or 97.85 points to trade at 2,159.90 at the close. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) added 2.83% or 8.30 points to end at 302.00 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) was up 2.09% or 93.30 points to 4,551.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which lost 2.12% or 27.25 points to trade at 1,261.05 in late trade. Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) declined 1.61% or 101.10 points to end at 6,196.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 1.58% or 2.65 points to 164.75.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which rose 4.68% to 2,159.35, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which was up 2.88% to settle at 302.15 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which gained 1.43% to close at 1,509.00.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 2.08% to 1,262.00 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 1.52% to settle at 164.85 and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.50% to 6,198.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1210 to 981 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1932 fell and 1739 advanced, while 125 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.19% to 12.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.24% or 29.30 to $2,328.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.22% or 0.18 to hit $82.81 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.24% or 0.21 to trade at $87.41 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.04% to 83.40, while EUR/INR rose 0.06% to 89.51.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 105.57.
