Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.27%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK), which rose 8.09% or 39.15 points to trade at 523.15 at the close. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) added 2.90% or 12.45 points to end at 442.15 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.41% or 4.50 points to 191.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included UPL Ltd (NS:UPLL), which lost 3.04% or 25.10 points to trade at 799.30 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 2.67% or 9.10 points to end at 331.85 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 2.36% or 22.25 points to 921.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 8.00% to 523.05, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was up 2.38% to settle at 191.10 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 0.98% to close at 497.65.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.43% to 921.65 in late trade, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which lost 2.14% to settle at 1345.00 and Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 2.11% to 703.65 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 814 to 771 and 21 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1378 rose and 1295 declined, while 159 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.70% to 12.4400.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.28% or 3.59 to $1274.11 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.22% or 0.12 to hit $54.03 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.13% or 0.08 to trade at $60.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.14% to 64.765, while EUR/INR fell 0.34% to 75.3026.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 94.53.
