Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Public Sector Undertakings, Banking and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.37%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.42%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 3.07% or 18.15 points to trade at 611.50 at the close. Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) added 1.99% or 26.15 points to end at 1348.20 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 1.67% or 7.10 points to 434.80 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 4.79% or 16.05 points to trade at 320.35 in late trade. State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) declined 4.59% or 13.25 points to end at 276.20 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) shed 3.97% or 22.40 points to 543.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 2.47% to 307.60, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.94% to settle at 932.40 and Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which gained 1.77% to close at 293.00.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 4.40% to 320.20 in late trade, State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which lost 4.06% to settle at 276.80 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was down 3.35% to 543.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 874 to 729 and 28 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1444 fell and 1312 advanced, while 123 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.90% to 17.1850.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.28% or 3.70 to $1334.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.64% or 0.38 to hit $58.81 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.21 to trade at $62.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.31% to 64.065, while EUR/INR fell 0.32% to 79.1225.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 89.55.
