India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.69%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Metals, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.69%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.75%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 4.82% or 321.45 points to trade at 6,986.50 at the close. Adani Enterprises Ltd (NS:ADEL) added 2.41% or 70.60 points to end at 3,003.00 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 1.62% or 25.55 points to 1,601.15 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Hindalco Industries Ltd. (NS:HALC), which lost 3.88% or 23.95 points to trade at 593.05 in late trade. JSW Steel Ltd (NS:JSTL) declined 3.77% or 32.80 points to end at 837.40 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 3.04% or 4.25 points to 135.35.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 1.69% to 1,601.60, ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which was up 1.52% to settle at 477.30 and Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which gained 1.15% to close at 1,033.70.

The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.05% to 135.30 in late trade, LTIMindtree Ltd (BO:LTIM) which lost 2.97% to settle at 5,960.00 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 2.92% to 1,490.20 at the close.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1200 to 922 and 49 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2127 rose and 1571 declined, while 106 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.31% to 14.10.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.59% or 12.15 to $2,061.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.50% or 0.35 to hit $70.03 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.34% or 0.26 to trade at $75.63 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.03% to 83.29, while EUR/INR fell 0.07% to 91.04.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 102.09.
