Investing.com – Russia equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Power, Telecoms and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Moscow, the MICEX added 0.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the MICEX were Niznekamskneftekhim ao (MCX:NKNC), which rose 10.83% or 5.200 points to trade at 53.200 at the close. FSK EES (MCX:FEES) added 6.48% or 0.0045 points to end at 0.0733 and Aeroflot (MCX:AFLT) was up 5.55% or 3.68 points to 69.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included United Company Rusal Plc (MCX:RUAL), which lost 1.72% or 0.430 points to trade at 24.600 in late trade. Bashneft ANK ao (MCX:BANE) declined 1.54% or 40.0 points to end at 2565.0 and AFK Sistema (MCX:AFKS) shed 1.18% or 0.215 points to 17.995.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 126 to 103 and 17 ended unchanged on the Moscow Stock Exchange.
The Russian VIX, which measures the implied volatility of MICEX options, was up 3.17% to 36.810 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.06% or 0.80 to $1230.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.02% or 1.46 to hit $37.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.02% or 1.17 to trade at $39.91 a barrel.
USD/RUB was down 0.67% to 70.5713, while EUR/RUB fell 0.67% to 78.188.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.23% at 96.88.
