Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.21%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.69%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 2.48% or 2.99 points to trade at 123.55 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.96% or 2.29 points to end at 119.05 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.74% or 2.84 points to 165.94 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 3.76% or 12.94 points to trade at 331.06 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 1.75% or 0.84 points to end at 47.12 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) shed 1.28% or 0.71 points to 54.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which rose 13.44% to 11.48, Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) which was up 6.40% to settle at 19.61 and Helmerich and Payne Inc (NYSE:HP) which gained 5.11% to close at 38.43.
The worst performers were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which was down 3.76% to 331.06 in late trade, CME Group Inc (NASDAQ:CME) which lost 3.33% to settle at 206.07 and AmerisourceBergen (NYSE:ABC) which was down 3.32% to 86.66 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Relmada Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RLMD) which rose 48.66% to 30.0, Xenetic Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:XBIO) which was up 33.87% to settle at 1.660 and PetMed Express Inc (NASDAQ:PETS) which gained 33.74% to close at 26.00.
The worst performers were Destination Maternity Corporation (NASDAQ:DEST) which was down 46.59% to 0.18 in late trade, Bionano Genomics Inc (NASDAQ:BNGO) which lost 43.16% to settle at 1.08 and Assertio Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ASRT) which was down 28.13% to 0.84 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1905 to 942 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1783 rose and 844 declined, while 73 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.75% to 14.00.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.43% or 6.45 to $1487.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.45% or 0.24 to hit $53.63 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $59.07 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.01% to 1.1150, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 108.61.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 97.050.
