Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.23%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.80%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 2.65% or 8.17 points to trade at 316.99 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 2.37% or 6.50 points to end at 280.33 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 1.79% or 0.77 points to 43.82 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 1.82% or 3.70 points to trade at 200.02 in late trade. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) declined 1.62% or 1.67 points to end at 101.89 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) shed 0.97% or 2.14 points to 218.82.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NetApp Inc (NASDAQ:NTAP) which rose 18.17% to 105.31, Cooper Companies Inc (NASDAQ:COO) which was up 9.18% to settle at 102.19 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which gained 8.12% to close at 64.30.
The worst performers were Dominion Energy Inc (NYSE:D) which was down 6.36% to 44.79 in late trade, Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which lost 5.94% to settle at 51.28 and Xcel Energy Inc (NASDAQ:XEL) which was down 5.92% to 49.57 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were MMTEC Inc (NASDAQ:MTC) which rose 96.92% to 2.56, Cardiff Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:CRDF) which was up 64.87% to settle at 2.91 and Adial Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ADIL) which gained 59.80% to close at 3.26.
The worst performers were Gigcapital5 Inc (NASDAQ:GIA) which was down 63.99% to 3.99 in late trade, Energem Corp (NASDAQ:ENCP) which lost 58.58% to settle at 3.50 and ESGEN Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:ESAC) which was down 46.05% to 6.21 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1861 to 1017 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1962 rose and 1424 declined, while 144 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.16% to 13.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.83% or 37.65 to $2,092.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 1.94% or 1.52 to hit $79.78 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 1.81% or 1.48 to trade at $83.39 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.11% to 150.15.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 103.84.
